Sites that Require the TEACHER to add Students

More info still coming...

Spelling Stars
Login as a teacher, set up your account.

Go to the tab MANAGE LISTS: import/copy lists:   I imported all first, second, third & fourth grade lists, there are 30 tests & practices lists in each grade level because I plan on having students start at different levels and self pace.

Go to the tab MANAGE STUDENTS: Enter students' first & last names, then their username as their first and last name combined (Hans Anderson's username is HansAnderson otherwise it will sometimes say that user name is already taken and you won't have conformity with names) Set their password to something such as Ducks2028  because then they won't need to change it next year's grade level uses it.

Go to the tab MANAGE TESTS:  This is where you can decide to make pretests, practices, & tests available to students individually or by the whole class.  Selected whichever lists to make the pretest, practice & test available for everyone or for groups of individuals. It is also where you will generate & print reports to see how students achieved.

IXL  (this info was taken directly from the IXL website, we have not actually tried it yet, hopefully it will be this easy to transfer student info from teacher to teacher!)

If teachers are part of the same site license, their students can be on multiple rosters within that site license. Each teacher just adds the student to his or her roster as usual. To add a student, the teacher types the first few letters of the student’s name and selects the match from the preloaded list. The student’s information will be automatically entered in the roster.

**If a student transfers from one class to another, the new teacher simply adds the student, and the former teacher removes the student. To remove a student from the roster, the teacher clicks the red X next to the student’s name.

Students’ usernames and passwords are stored in your roster. You can edit any roster information, except for the student’s username and subject.
To change a password, find the student in your roster. Click on the student’s current password. It will then become editable. Type in the new password, and click Save. The change will be reflected in the student’s profile as well.

To send yourself a list of all usernames and passwords, click E-mail me a list of students’ usernames and passwords at the top of your roster.

MobyMax (this info was taken directly from the Moby Max website, we have not actually tried it yet, hopefully it will be this easy to transfer student info from teacher to teacher!)

XtraMath
Create an account on the Extra Math site, or if you already have an account, add a new class to your account for this years students. I labeled mine Mistic15-16. Add your students' names (first name only) to your class. You will need to print a list of pins for your students to use.

Then go into each students UA. In each students' UA, click on the XtraMath bookmark in the bookmark bar. Click on the orange CLASSROOM tab. Your name should appear. Click on the green circle with the plus sign in it to add your name, then click DONE. Click on your CLASS (whatever you named it). A list of students names will come up. It is a random lists, where students can simply click on their own name and type in their pin. It won't necessarily come up to that particular student's name, so don't be concerned.
If you want your students to come directly to the place where their names are listed, you will need to delete the old bookmark for XtraMath, and drag the new bookmark to the bookmark bar, editing it to say XtraMath.

L2L (Lyrics 2 Learn)
I am currently communicating with Jeremy from L2L to figure out if student data transfer is a possibility.

Storybird
You can only have 25 students on your account, so you will need to transfer your old students to their new teacher. To transfer OUT students from last year, you need to go to tabs: STUDIO,  then to STUDENTS, then click on MOVE STUDENTS. You can then search by teacher’s email to transfer them to the new teacher's existing account.

If you want to add new students who did not do Storybird last year, go to STUDIO, then to STUDENTS, then click on the tab that says ADD or INVITE STUDENTS. You can either type in their usernames or have the students go to the site & type in the class access code. Be sure you have the right CLASS for this year selected.

Epic Books
Log in as a teacher for your FREE account.
Click on Teacher Profile to add students. I did their first & last names, but parent email is NOT needed to register them to your teacher account. I set every student's pin the same so it's easy to remember since we aren't really worried about using this for grading anything.
Once you have them all registered, you will need to log in to each students UA and go to the Epic Books site, click on log in. Type in YOUR teacher username & password. It will bring up your students' profiles. When they click on their name/profile, it will ask for them to type in their pin.  You will need to guide them through the next step: Have them click on PREFERENCES: as they pick their age, genres which they enjoy reading from....When logging in the first time, if you click on have google save the password, you won't have to give out your password to them.
I taught my kids to have 2 tabs open, one tab for Epic Books, and another with
AR Bookfinder Quicksearch. That way they could quickly figure out if a book they wanted to read was in the appropriate level, according to AR.

We Give Books
Since students have to be 13 or older to register to use this site, I simply gave all the students my password to my account and let them all read books under my name. The site did not limit the number of users on my account, so we didn't experience any problems doing it this way. If you choose not to give them your password to let them read, the book selection is limited. I taught my kids to have 2 tabs open, one tab for We Give Books, and another with AR Bookfinder Quicksearch. That way they could quickly figure out if a book they wanted to read was in the appropriate level, according to AR.

Changes on Apps

In each students' online user account, go into the following apps to update or change settings:

Google Calendar
go into settings "flower"

Click on settings & find the default for daily, weekly, monthly view. Select MONTHLY & SAVE.
(From YOUR calendar, in your user account, you can invite students to view which ever calendars you choose. They will automatically populate to their calendars.) I invited all 2nd graders to view a birthday calendar that we can add our kiddos bdays too.

Students Sign Up Once

Log in to the following apps to sign up for accounts. The app will then track progress or save information PER student account, and will "travel" with the student to new classrooms & grade levels.

Typing Club  Sign up using ONLY students' first name, their user name is also their first name, their password is whatever your classroom google user sign in password is.

For example Robin    username: Robin    password: drakes2026

Lucid Press & Lucid Chart  Signing up for one, gets you into both with the same username & password.  Sign up using students' emails & their password is whatever your classroom google user sign in password is. Ludic Press is a great resource for making pamphlets, signs, invitations; Lucid Chart is great for students mapping thoughts for research papers, or ideas for writing.

Blogger  From their user account, click on the Blogger app. Sign each student up for a numbered blog for example blackduck99.blogspot.com  All you need to do is put in their UA password to access it.  As of Aug 1, 2015, I have made blogs for the 2015-16 school year for students with the numbers blackduck 01 - blackduck101, and think this would be a good way to keep them consistently organized. I numbered them so that they are NOT easily searchable on the internet, but did put students' first names on their blog. I used the default blog that appears when you click on create a new bog and think that it's sufficient for students use. I then linked all my students' blogs to my classroom blog for parents to access from home (or from cell phones).

Older grade levels may want to have students set up their own blogs, depending on how much classroom time you want to spend on teaching that skill. You or the students can personalize their blogs if you like, changing the background & colors and adding clip art or photos.

*Also be sure either you or the student goes into settings, and to the section titled "edit comments & posts". Under comment moderation, select "Always" and enter the student's email address where prompted. This ensures that no comments will post until the student (and you) are able to view it. It will send a message to the student on their blog home page & teachers will need to instruct students to show the comments to them before posting it.
